Non a caso "Zombie" , la canzone che ha reso famosa la band The Cranberreies, ha una struttura così incalzante, quasi come se fosse uno sfogo liberatorio.
Il brano (tratto dall'album No Need To Argue, 1994) è stato scritto dalla cantante durante il tour inglese dell'anno precedente, per onorare la morte di due ragazzi rimasti uccisi dall'IRA in un attentato a Warrington in Inghilterra, il 20 marzo 1993. Sin dal 1916 (data riportata all'interno della canzone in riferimento alle vicende dell' Easter Rising) l'Irlanda del Nord rivendicava la sua indipendenza dal Regno Unito con la forza delle armi, causando rivolte sanguinarie che terminarono soltanto nel 1998. Il brano è un'esortazione a cessare il fuoco, a mettere fine a tutte le morti ingiuste provocate da rivendicazioni politiche e territoriali.
Nel testo c'è un riferimento alla canzone "The Town I Loved So Well" scritta nel 1973 dal musicista irlandese Phil Coultier e dedicata alla sua città, Derry, nell'Ulster, uno dei luoghi cardine del conflitto Nord-irlandese.
